Strategic thinking
Catan is a global success that was a new starting point for modern board games. Klaus Teuber has now published countless variants, expansions and spin-offs to his original. Catan – Logic Puzzle offers something completely new. This issue is aimed at only one person. Because it is a so-called brain teaser, a logic puzzle. The title is suitable for people aged 8 and over and contains 40 tasks designed in the style of a laying puzzle. The atmosphere of the known world hovers above everything. Raw materials, settlements, roads and even robbers and knights are included. It opens up a new view of the modern classic.
Ascending difficulty
The box visually matches the previous releases. However, the inner workings are completely different. A box with a hexagonal base shape is included. It contains the material. There are hexagonal slots in the lid, some of which are specially marked for better orientation when loosening. The material consists of settlements, knights, robbers, rivers and deserts as well as landscapes. Most things consist of hexagonal parts, but they are combined into multi-part structures. There are also 40 puzzle cards, which are divided into four difficulty levels from beginner to professional level. They are best solved one after the other. This creates a certain feeling for a rudimentary overall story.
The right placement
The task cards provide a laying puzzle. An initial situation usually shows several settlements. For this purpose, the exact material that you have to lay is listed. Nothing must be left over. The rule is simple: Between the settlements you should build a road from – also different – raw materials. However, each resource may be adjacent to resources of the same type. Detours are sometimes necessary. Rivers and deserts are also disturbing. The routes may lead along there, but not through these obstacles. You have to keep your route away from robbers. One field distance is announced. Or a knight protects the route if you can put it directly on the robber.
Tricky tasks
As if that wasn't enough, you should also connect the places appropriately. The settlements each show one resource, the cities three. It's not always so obvious and easy to keep track of everything and put all the pieces on the plan. From very simple rules, card after card develops into a complex and strategic brainteaser. Catan – Logic Puzzle offers you a nice fusion of familiar content from the original and typical laying tasks.
